Bill and Donna Stinehour

Keepers - July 23 - September 3, 2018

We are excited to introduce you to Bill and Donna Stinehour of Rye, New Hampshire. They are our newest keepers, who will tend to the light for the month of August. Bill retired from a 21-year career in the U. S. Coast Guard in 2000. During that time he and Donna raised four children while being assigned to many duty stations including Boston, Philadelphia and Michigan.

However, it was their two tours in Maine that shaped their love of this rugged coastline. The highlight being their 3-years living at the Owls Head Light Keepers Quarters, while Bill served as Commanding Officer of the USCG Cutter Thunder Bay. After leaving the Coast Guard, Bill worked in many fields including the Alaskan Salmon Fisheries in Bristol Bay, Alaska and the Maple syrup industry in Vermont. Currently, he is working for Teledyne DGO in Portsmouth, NH. He is also a member of the American Red Cross Seacoast Disaster Assistance Team.

After raising their children, Donna worked as a paraeducator in Vermont for ten years. She completed the Vermont Public School and Librarian Certification while working for the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, and was Associate Librarian there for several years before moving to the seacoast. She currently works at the Rye Elementary School. They both enjoy walking, swimming, yoga, jogging and hiking. They share a love of reading, movies and history. Their children and two grandchildren live from North Carolina to Japan, providing many opportunities for travel, but look forward to family visits at the lighthouse!
